ENGLISH LANGUAGE

To enter top universities in the UK, you will need to pass an International English Language Testing System, or IELTS, test with a score of at least 6.5; for Oxford and Cambridge this score needs to be 7.0 (with a score of at least 7.0 in each module of the exam).

UNIVERSITY APPLICATION

For all UK undergraduate courses, students must apply through UCAS system. With UCAS the trick is to prepare early – the whole procedure – filling in the application form is a long process. Universities want to know not only about your grades, but also your character. For this reason you need to provide a letter of recommendation from a trusted referee, as well as submitting the all important personal statement.

For masters programmes, applicants must apply directly to the university, there are rarely interviews, which means that the personal statement becomes even more vital, as does your academic CV – work experience outside of the classroom, you must demonstrate a real passion for your chosen field and have a clear idea of where you want the masters programme to take you. Having a thesis idea in mind is never a bad thing either!
